My Self Care Practices

Many people ask me what I do with my skincare routine. They literally want to know everything I use and assume that a few skincare products is all it takes to accomplish great skin. This is simply not the case. A lot of the work comes from a lot of self care. Self care is so different for everyone too. That’s the most beautiful part about it all. The tools I’ve developed in order to fill my cup are catered to my health and wellness. Here is some insight into my self care practices and the people who help keep me accountable for my well being.

Tara of Tara Curran Nutrition counseling is my go to when I feel my eating habits slip. Food is your source of enrichment and fuel. Determining your sensitivities to certain foods and making mindful choices of what to eat can be hard to do on your own. To ask myself β€œIs this nutritionally benefiting me” before I make choices in what to eat has changed my life. I feel balanced and have continued energy even on my busiest days.

One of my favorite parts of visiting Russell is his studio space is a dream. I always find new additions to his artistic space! #nodaddancing

Russell of POKE Acupuncture is someone who has kept me healthy, sane and continues to educate me about my health. I connected with Russell when I first contracted shingles and he helped me recover with such care. Acupuncture is the process of creating small channels in the body to help flow any stagnation in the body. We all get stuck and our organs can often be overstressed. I especially love Russell’s approach because he is incredibly knowledgeable about hormones and the many issues we encounter as women. That sort of empathy creates a great room for care and is very relaxing.

Brittany Rose of Brittany Rose Yoga and Massage is my newest love and addition to my self care circle. Brittany is so talented and has created a beautiful space for healing in her bungalow in Beachwood Canyon. Her background is in energy healing and yoga which makes for a session that includes so much for than a good rub down. A monthly reset with her is so important to my body, mind and soul.

Alexis at work. Wowsa!

Alexis at work. Wowsa!

Alexis of Alexis Pilates is not just my pilates instructor, she is my whole health and wellness guru! Alexis has been teaching pilates for 15+ years so her technique is on point and has made me move on a reformer in ways I didn’t think possible. She is so intuitive with movement and is constantly educating herself on every part of health. My sessions with Alexis can sometimes be tough but my body always feel amazing and strong. Alexis works both in Silverlake and in Beverly Hills so she is available to everyone in LA. She also takes on private clients which makes for a great one on one connection to truly learn about your body.

As I write this I am making a commitment to myself, to continue to honor my self care practices. Self care is something I always advise for my clients but have often found it difficult to maintain myself. I battle with the thought that it is selfish or too time consuming as I glorify the busy in my life. The truth is, without self care I can’t care for others. With the exchange of energy in terms of providing a service I can’t be empty and give. It’s like driving a car with no fuel. It’s like exercising without food. Those things simply can’t happen without a crash or a complete shut down. Hope this gives you some insight as to how it can really take a village for great health (and skin). Be kind to yourself and know that the hardest step is reaching out. The help will be there whenever you are ready. xo
